Irmo High Schoool won the 4A South Carolina State Championship over the weekend and it was in part thanks to some premature celebrations by the Lexington goalkeeper.

Irmo captain, Mattison Gossett, stepped up to take what would prove to be the decisive kick in the penalty shootout. It looked like Lexington keeper, Jacob Parton, had saved the kick. In fact he thought he had saved it also as he popped up to celebrate the save that would keep his team in the shootout.

He elation came a bit early though as the ball had plenty of backspin which carried it over the goal line to win the game for Irmo.
