Having applied all the kinds of attacking pressure that most expected of Manchester City in the first leg, Pep Guardiola's side entered the half-time break one goal better off than the started.
Gabriel Jesus' early goal gave City the goal they craved. Coming closer and closer as the game progressed, Bernardo Silva was desperately unlucky not to make it 2-0 in the closing minutes of the first half.
What will undoubtedly annoy City, Guardiola and their fans however is the second goal they rightfully scored - but was not allowed.
Making the most of Loris Karius' flapping effort, it appeared that Silva had fed the ball back to Sane who was standing in an offside position. However, on closer view, the ball clearly comes off Milner's leg, and, as such, the German winger could not have been offside.
A very poor decision from the officials, City lead by that solitary goal at half-time.
City have been superb. Looks a huge mistake giving Sane offside.

Sane goal wrongly ruled out for offside - the ball came off Milner #MCFC #LFC

How can Sane be offside when he
A) wasn’t
And
B) it came off Milner ?— Andy Goldstein MBE (@andygoldstein05) April 10, 2018
Sane didn't look offside so goal should have been given...

Sane goal disallowed. Ball forward off Milner. That looks like a dreadful decision.

Huge stroke of fortune for Liverpool that the linesman did not notice that the ball flew to Leroy Sane off James Milner before that 'offside' goal. #MCILIV
