Former Monaco manager Leonard Jardim turned down at the last minute a lucrative offer to manage Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, with A Bola in his native Portugal reporting he did so as he has this week received an offer to manage in the Premier League. Jardim had flown to Saudi Arabia for final talks on a deal worth €12 million a year, but has now pulled out of the deal.
A Bola say Jardim has an offer to manage in England, triggering speculation as to which club it might be. The most obvious club is Manchester United, who are going nowhere fast under Jose Mourinho. Jardim has been touted as a potential United manager in the past, and has plenty of top-level experience in the Champions League with Monaco, guiding them to the semi-finals of the competition in 2017. He has worked well with a host of young players at Monaco, most notably Anthony Martial.
Jardim was sacked by Monaco in October, having been in charge since 2014. After a successful spell, things went awry at the beginning of this season, as the club's policy of selling their best players finally took its toll.
Elsewhere, Jorge Mendes has made the intriguing move of issuing a public statement denying Mourinho will leave United.
It’s totally untrue. Jose is very happy at the club and the club is very happy with him. He has a long-term contract with Manchester United and is fully committed to the club in building a solid winning project.
Jardim was reportedly offered the Fulham job last month, but the club ultimately settled for Claudio Ranieri.
