Who knew a spot on the Leicester City bench would ever be so sought after? The recently-crowned Premier League champions are close to signing some backup for Kasper Schmeichel in the form of ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, who was the netminder for Hannover in last season's Bundesliga. Hannover did, admittedly, finish bottom of the league, but it's not like bringing together players who have struggled at the foot of a division hasn't worked for them in the very recent past.
Zieler is on his was to the English Midlands for a medical. Leicester would be signing an extremely experienced goalkeeper: at the age of 27, he has played more than 100 times for Hannover, and has been capped six times by the German national team.
Zieler also qualifies as a homegrown player, as he came through the ranks at Manchester United. He signed a senior contract with Manchester United in 2008, but failed to make an appearance for the first team, thus was farmed out on loan to Northampton Town. He joined Hannover in 2010.
Clever move by Leicester if it's true they are going after Zieler - qualifies as home grown for CL matches coz of time spent at Man Utd.
