That proud football club with an illustrious history, Leeds United continue to provide an unseemly amount of comic stories.
Italian striker Mirco Antenucci has been in decent form this season, banging in 10 goals since arriving from Serie B club Termana. He is the club's top scorer this season.
Unfortunately, amassing this respectable tally has been his downfall.
Antenucci has a clause in his contract stipulating that should he score 12 goals this season, Leeds United will have to extend his deal by a year.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Neil Redfearn has been told to limit Antenucci's involvement because the club do not want to commit to the player for another year. The principal reasons being that Antenucci is 31 and Leeds United financial position is still desperately uncertain.
Antenucci's agent, Silvio Pagliari, confirmed the existence of the clause but said he was assured by the club that it was not the reason Leeds' top scorer is not being picked.
