Republic of Ireland international Lee O'Connor has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan for the 2020/21 season.
The 20-year old joined Celtic from Manchester United in the summer of 2019, although he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Scottish club. He would join Partick Thistle on loan in the Scottish Championship, making four appearances before the league was suspended due to the coronavirus.
That was O'Connor's only first team experience at club level, although he did make senior Republic of Ireland debut in the friendly against New Zealand in November of last year. He also established himself as a key member of Stephen Kenny's U21 side, recently being named the FAI Under-21 International Player of the Year for 2019.
Viewed as a major prospect, the right back will be hoping to get plenty of first team football at Tranmere in the upcoming season.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said he is hoping to push on after making his Ireland debut and is looking forward to getting some games under his belt.
I am happy the move is now over the line. It is a massive football club, the conversations I have had with the Gaffer, the plans are very intriguing, and you know straight away how he wants to play.
I spent a long time with Manchester United, so I know the North West well. I can’t wait for the league to start and hopefully I can help the Club achieve what they want to achieve.
I have learnt a lot from my time at Manchester United, Celtic and playing international football, and I am looking to use that experience to help me push on at Tranmere Rovers.
