Lee O'Connor, remember the name.
Ireland U17s hosted Turkey in Midleton FC's Knockgriffin Park on Thursday afternoon for the UEFA U17 European Championship qualifiers and managed to sneak a win in a thrilling affair.
After Ireland took the lead through a disastrous Turkey own goal, the visitors managed to answer back, and again found an answer when Ireland took the lead for a second time. Then in the 66th minute, a moment of magic won the match for Ireland.
Defender Lee O'Connor did NOT look like a defender as he picked up the ball in his own half before going on a fantastic run resulting in the winning goal as Ireland won 3-2.
O'Connor's goal can be seen from 1:05 below:
Wonderful stuff.
The Waterford man has captained Ireland at U16 level and will hope to follow in John O'Shea's footsteps by breaking into the Manchester United first team, but having just turned 16 in July, we may not see that for some time yet.
Best of luck to him, a clearly talented player, he has every right to be delighted with that goal.
