Whether you're a super fan or can't stand the sight of the show, you can prepare for your summer to be dominated by Love Island. The ITV offering returned to our screens last night, with the programme set to run for the next number of months before likely finishing up sometime around early August.
For those of you who are somehow unfamiliar with the concept, the show involves a number of singletons being tossed into a Spanish villa where they are asked to 'couple up' with potential partners. A number of different personalities will come and go over the course of the series before a winning couple is eventually crowned by the public.
There have been quite a few Irish participants in the series down through the years, including in this edition.
However, it seems that fans of one League of Ireland club might not be too happy about one rumoured contestant.
League of Ireland player set to join 'Love Island' cast
The Irish Independent are reporting that a current League of Ireland player is set to leave their club in order to go on Love Island this summer.
The player in question has not been named yet due to the strict confidentiality agreements that are in place on the show, although it is said that he is not an Irish national. In his early 20s and a 'fringe player' at the club, he has opted to pursue the potential riches that can come with competing on the reality show.
Of course, this is not the first instance of a footballer with League of Ireland connections appearing on Love Island. Former Waterford player Aaron Simpson was part of the 2021 edition of the show, since going on to return to football in the lower leagues in England.
It will be interesting to see how this goes down among the fanbase of the club involved on this occasion.
