It Seems Euro 2016 Could Be The Last We See Of O'Neill And Keane Together

Roy Keane has been discussing his international future with journalists today and unsurprisingly, it looks like he has his heart set on returning to club management.

Speaking about whether he will stay on as Martin O'Neill's assistant in the long-term:

I’m going to meet with Martin over the next couple of weeks. He knows that I still have that ambition to get back into it. I certainly want to stay on for the Euros then we’ll play it by ear.

In fact, Keane has revealed that he already had some opportunities but opted to stay committed to his work with Ireland, 'Stuff has come up but I’ve always been very focused on the job here.'

While the Corkman has made no secret of the fact that his long-term ambition is to return to management, one would wonder if he is better off staying on as assistant to O'Neill, where he'd surely be the clear favourite to succeed the Derryman.

A return to club management in the mean time could prove fruitful but then again if it goes pear-shaped it could actually scupper his chances of getting the Ireland job.

He seems in no rush to come a decision anyhow:

We’ll have a look at that again in the next few months but as I’ve said I’m not one for applying for jobs or ringing people.

I for one would miss the Monkeano dynamic. Sure the two boys love each other!
