In yet another bizarre twist, a laser beam has ended Russia's World Cup. Russian manager Fabio Capello is complaining that in the build-up to Algeria's equalising goal, a laser beam blinded keeper Igor Akinfeev causing him to lose the flight of the ball and concede a vital goal that put Algeria through to the round of 16.
The pictures indeed show a green laser beam, directed at him from someone in the crowd. Akinfeev protested furiously as a free kick was whipped into the box and couldn't climb high enough to deny Slimani's headed effort.
Capello maintains that 'the laser beam blinded him'.
There are pictures. You can see that in the footage. This not an excuse, it is a fact. There was a laser. I have never come up with excuses to get by in my entire life.
Russia’s elimination means that Capello, who won nine league titles in 16 seasons with Milan, Real Madrid and Juventus, has now taken charge of seven World Cup games and won only one – when England beat Slovenia 1-0 four years ago.
Here's the clip; what do you think?
