Spurs seem ludicrously committed to boosting the morale of their near neighbours, Arsenal. Tottenham have been miles better than Arsenal this season, but following that damaging 2-2 draw with Chelsea that handed the league to Leicester, Pochettino's side have totally fallen apart. This has partly been down to the suspensions picked up at Stamford Bridge, most notably Moussa Dembele. Tottenham have lost just one of the game in which Dembele has played this season.
This has coincided with an Arsenal resurgence led by Olivier Giroud. A perfect storm: rarely has a striker and a team been so better suited to turning on the style when there is almost nothing at stake.
Arsenal unsurprisingly hammered Aston Villan 4-0, a game that featured an Olivier Giroud hat-trick.
Spurs needed just a point against already relegated Newcastle to ensure they finished ahead of their fierce London rivals. So naturally they lost 5-1. Oh, and Newcastle played much of the second half with ten men after a Mitrovic red card. It is the 21st season in a row that Arsenal have finished ahead of Spurs. The Gunners call it Saint Totteringham's Day, the moment in the season in which they know they will finish above Spurs. Tottenham fans might call it Groundhog Day.
Here is some of the reaction. We're not huge fans of Mesut Ozil celebrating finishing second, however.

I don't even support Tottenham and I'm annoyed. FFS Spurs.

Can't remember @SpursOfficial having such a good season, nor @Arsenal having a much worse one...but still, mind. That. Gap. #lasagne4spurs

Spurs collapsing in some in style here - and Newcastle producing a classic "too little too late" performance when the pressure is off. 4-1.

Newcastle have done the double over Spurs and failed to beat Aston Villa, which is quite something. #NUFC

That said, there is something rather underwhelming for Arsenal about this tweet from the BBC:
Arsenal have done it again.
Tottenham now haven't finished above Arsenal since 1995.https://t.co/puaeogTiJK pic.twitter.com/8n2JZ4vXVU— BBC Sport (@BBCSport) May 15, 2016
We wondered whether the fall-out from the draw would Chelsea would mentally affect Spurs. It appears that it has.
