For months now we have been hearing all about these extremely optimisitic Leicester City fans who put anywhere from £1 to £10 on their team to win the Premier League at ridiculous odds such as 5000-1.
Even Tom Hanks claimed to have a sneaky bet on the Foxes, such is the level of interest we find with those who are set to win big on a shot in the dark back in the summer of 2015.
But now we have a story about a young man who did just as those who are set for a beautiful lump-sum did, backed his team Leicester City before the season began... Only he was far, FAR too eager to end up in the green.
Having put a bet of £0.50 on Leicester to win the league at 5000-1, one idiotic punter decided to cash out after his team beat Sunderland on the first day of the season, netting him a grand total of £0.95, a profit of just 45p.
Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue expressed his disbelief at the situation:
This will go down as the worst cash-out decision in history.
Plenty of 5,000-1 backers took sums midway through the season when it looked in the balance. But we wonder what our man didn’t like about the 4-2 win over Sunderland on the opening day of the season?
We’re offering him an all-expenses paid day out at a game next season, plus another title bet to make amends to soften the blow.
Sound of Ladbrokes to offer him something to soften the blow, although we imagine he would rather celebrate his team's title win with a cool £2500 in his back pocket.
For proof, here is the screenshot of the awful decision:
