Ladbrokes Players Cup 5-a-side tournament returns for 2024 and has included Powerleague Dublin as one of its venues for this years competition.
Last year, Slough Scorpions won the inaugural Players Cup winning the prize of £8,000 as well as playing a 'Boss Level' game against former Premier League players Lauren, Jérémie Aliadière, William Gallas, Clinton Morrison, and Paddy Kenny. The tournament saw teams from across England and Scotland compete for the top cash prize with the overall prize pot being £50,000. An open top bus tour in central London also took place for the winners.
However, this year the Ladbrokes Player's Cup has gone up a notch. For 2024, a men's and women's tournament will be held and Powerleague has been added as one of the 6 venues. On top of this the prize pot has doubled to £100,000 with £10,000 up for grabs for both men's and women's champions. £5,000 is the reward for the runner's up and a variety of prizes will be available for teams throughout the competition.
Two teams from each tournament heat will qualify for the Players Cup Final which will take place on 13th July in Birmingham. Powerleague Dublin with its pitch camera technology will host their leg of the tournament on the 25th May. Other dates and venues include:
- Manchester – 18th May
- Glasgow – 1st June
- London – 8th June
- Birmingham – 15th June
- Cardiff – 23rd June
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes speaking about this years tournament said:
The Players Cup provides an amazing opportunity for football players of all levels to play together and showcase their skill on a national scale.
We were blown away by the talent on show in 2023 and look forward to giving teams across the UK and Ireland a taste of the 'professional footballer' experience this spring and summer. With Slough Scorpionz returning for a second year, let’s see who can try and steal their crown!”
