"He's landed awkwardly there.." has almost become a cliché among football commentators in recent times but on Sunday evening Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma suffered an injury that made all watching Guus Hiddink's men take on Manchester United wince with discomfort.
The severity of the injury was quickly made clear by Zouma's visible and audible discomfort, and an action replay showed that after clearing the ball away from danger he suffered a nasty hyper-extension of his knee upon landing.
Zouma leaped high expecting a challenge from Marouane Fellaini that didn't come:
And upon landing his knee hyper-extended in a very uncomfortable manner:
The Chelsea players were understandably concerned for their teammate:
And social media was quickly filled with well wishes for Zouma after what looked to be a nasty injury, we are still waiting for more details which we expect to emerge in the coming days:
