As soon as we heard the news that Eamon Dunphy was going to be hosting a podcast, so many questions filled our head. Would he be given free reign to rant? Who would he have on as guests? Would he say the word 'baby' over or under 25 times?
Well, the answers were yes, the same people as many expected and not quite. The first edition of 'The Stand' was released on Soundcloud last night and it has some absolute doozies in it.
The famed RTE panel of John Giles, Dietmar Hamann and Liam Brady join Dunphy for the premiere and all three come up with interesting ideas.
Hamann talks about how he prefers Chelsea's defensive masterclass to Liverpool's gung ho offence. Brady speaks about not fitting into Jack Charlton's plans which ultimately cost him a World Cup appearance.
But the most interesting quote of the entire episode goes to John Giles
I wouldn't agree with everything he (Klopp) does. Daniel Sturridge should be in the Liverpool side. Sometimes, managers have to live with players not doing what they want them to do. I think he's a one trick pony, with a brilliant trick.
Dunphy plays the role of host brilliantly (a contrast to his appearances on TV) but takes aim at Manchester City's style of play.
Guardiola does not care enough about defending as he should. Even his great Barcelona team was weak at the back. I don't think they'll win the Premier League
Hamann goes the other way.
I think Man City will win the Premier League, purely because they have the best squad, but there are four or five really good challengers there
It's a surprisingly entertaining 42 minutes, the kind of chat you'd have with your mates down the pub on a Friday night. Listen to the full episode below.
