The second Merseyside Derby of the season takes place at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
In his programme notes for the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp used some of his column space to pay tribute to a player who will not be on the pitch today - Seamus Coleman.
The Ireland captain remains at home with his family as he begins what will be a lengthy recovery period following the broken leg he sustained against Wales. Coleman is likely to be out of action for nine to 12 months due to Neil Taylor's tackle.
Klopp said that though he doesn't know Coleman personally, he is someone that he admires.
I would like to pass on my regards and best wishes to Seamus Coleman, who due to very unfortunate circumstances is not the available to play today. I do not know him personally, but as a football can supporter I love his character, his positive approach to the game and his commitment to his club. There is a lot to admire about this player and it is his personal qualities that will help him as he recovers from this setback and returns to the game.
This week, FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Neil Taylor. An automatic one-match ban for a red card is the norm. However, it is now possible that the left-back could be suspended for a longer period, even as much as Wales' remaining five qualification fixtures.
