Ireland's Chiedozie Ogbene was stretchered off during Ipswich's dramatic 4-3 loss to Brentford on Saturday afternoon
Ogbene suffered the injury just after the hour mark as Ipswich threw away a two goal lead, leaving them in 17th position in the Premier League table on just four points.
Fellow Irish international Sammie Szmodics had given Ipswich the lead early on but a late brace from the in-form Bryan Mbeumo won the points for Thomas Frank's men.
Ipswich have a number of Irish internationals in their ranks, including Dara O'Shea who tried to comfort his team-mate after receiving the injury.
It was the Cork native's third start of this Premier League season but he could now be facing a lengthy spell on the sideline according to his manager, Fermanagh native Kieran McKenna.
McKenna believes it could be an Achilles tear, which would sideline Ogbene for between six to nine months.
"It looks serious, unfortunately," McKenna said after the game.
"It looks like it could be an Achilles tear, so that would be devastating for him and for us.
"That's what I’ve been told at the moment. We hope that won’t be the case but I think that’s what looks most likely.
"Is it a six-to-nine-month injury? You’ll have to get a medical opinion on that but an Achilles tear is a big injury, so we hope that it won’t be that but I think the consensus at the moment is that it is."
The 27-year-old has been a huge player for Ireland in recent times and would be a big miss, with Nations League games against Finland and England coming up later this month.
Ogbene, who transferred to Ipswich from Luton this year this year for €8 million, has made 24 appearances for the Republic of Ireland since making his debut in 2021, scoring four goals.
