Finn Harps player Kevin McHugh was heading for surgery on Thursday morning after suffering a horrific finger injury the previous evening.

According to RTÉ, McHugh was coaching at the Donegal Soccer Academy when the accident occurred. In a reply to a Twitter user, he explained that it happened when he hopped a fence and his wedding ring was caught in it.

Remarkably, the 36-year-old found time to tweet out a picture of the injury as he sat in his car headed for Letterkenny hospital.  'Some drive to casualty in 2nd gear' he later added.

McHugh was later transferred to hospital in Galway for surgery.
