Kevin Doyle can only imagine that there was a disagreement between Darren Randolph and Stephen Kenny, and that is why the West Ham goalkeeper was not called up to the Ireland squad.

Kenny's side face three crucial World Cup qualifiers over the next week against Portugal, Azerbaijan, and Serbia.

Caoimhin Kelleher, Gavin Bazunu, and Mark Travers were the goalkeepers initially selected by Kenny. Due to illness, Travers was later replaced by Bohs' James Talbot.

"I find it strange because he doesn't seem to have ever done anything wrong," Doyle said about Randolph on The Preview with Ladbrokes.

"I know him - I'm not speaking to him on a daily basis - but some people if they're not playing, they'd be a negative influence, he's not like that.

"The less distractions you have to talk about, the better. It would have been an easy one to pick him in the squad, and just not play him. He would have been good for the two lads. He's not a person to moan, or be a grump around the place.

"I genuinely don't know if something has gone on behind the scenes. I can only imagine that it must have. There must have been some argument, and Stephen has decided that's why he's not bringing him in any more."

Doyle continued:

"We have other experienced players in there who aren't playing with their clubs, and won't be picked in the team, but have been brought into the squad to be around, and have a positive influence on players.

"I feel for him. He's been around for a good few years and hasn't put a foot wrong.

"We have two good goalkeepers, but they don't have experience. Even having Darren there training with them, coaching with them, in the dressing room before the game. I'm sure they'd look up to him.

"He's not as good with the ball at his feet as [Caoimhin Kellher and Gavin Bazunu]. From a selection point of view, maybe that's why he wouldn't be starting for Stephen Kenny. He's an excellent goalkeeper. Different managers have gone through in the past years, and there have been good and bad performances, but he's not been at fault for anything.

"He definitely has a right to feel hard done by."
