RTÉ's Champions League coverage is never short of entertainment, even if we disagree with the analyst a lot of the time. Last night they went with just a two man panel and messrs Cunningham and Dunphy went toe-to-toe after Man United's win when discussing the quality of Moyes' squad.
Dunphy usually has free reign to make overarching statements that are often wide of the mark but this time round he met his match in Kenny Cunningham, who wasn't willing to accept any shit.
First off, Dunphy called out Cunningham on his claim that United have the nucleus of a strong squad. Cunningham then listed off around seven or eight players but the stand-in senior analyst took umbrage to him including Evans and 'the right back' in said list.

It's easy for Dunphy to laugh off Cunningham but how many better right backs than Rafael were there in the Premier League last season? Pablo Zabaleta for sure but bar that, Rafael was every bit as good as anyone else. Also Jonny Evans was indeed the best defender United had last year, although the worry is that it may have just been one good season in the midst of many a mediocre campaign.
It's a cop out to make sweeping statements that United squad is ordinary. Sure it's a long way of the likes of City and Chelsea but Cunningham correctly showed that there are players there who still can play an important role.
Anyhow, the conversation then turned to who United can sign to improve the team. Dunphy claimed there are no great midfield players available, Cunningham begged to differ. He mentioned Toni Kroos, a player Dunphy would then claim wasn't a central midfielder. Cunningham didn't take long to set his colleague straight...
