Celtic have done an excellent job in the transfer market over the last few seasons.
They always seem able to spot a bargain, one that often goes on to make a big impact in their first team squad. Those players have often been sold on for sizeable fees, then going on to have stellar careers elsewhere.
Moussa Dembele is one such example.
Celtic signed the Frenchman from Fulham on a free transfer back in 2016, going on to spend two years in Glasgow. He would win eight trophies and scoring 51 goals along the way.
The striker would join Lyon for a fee of around £20million. Celtic also included a 15% sell on clause in the deal, something that looked like it would pay dividends for the last few seasons.
Juventus could scupper Moussa Dembele pay day for Celtic
Moussa Dembele has been linked with a number of clubs in recent seasons, often for quite large transfer fees. Celtic would have netted themselves quite a bit of cash as a result.
It seemed like he would finally be out the door this summer. Lyon have made little progress in contracts talks with the player, and considering he only has 12 months remaining on his deal, it was said they were willing to consider offers of around €20million. Celtic would net around €3million on the back of such a deal.
However, they could yet miss out on such a windfall.
According to French outlet RMC, Juventus has been in contact with Moussa Dembele about signing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. The player himself has also said he is in no hurry to leave Lyon as he considers his options.
The Italian giants have made a habit of signing players on free transfers in recent seasons. As for the Dembele, moving on a free would likely allow him to earn far more money in the form of a signing on fee.
Should he move on from Lyon without a transfer fee, Celtic will not see any benefit from the sell-on clause they inserted in the deal from 2018.
They will certainly be hoping that someone tables a big bid for him before the end of the window.
