Jurgen Klopp becoming the successor to Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager is reportedly pretty much a done deal. The former Borussia Dortmund manager could be appointed before the end of the week.

The news has many Liverpool fans ultra-excited. There was a feeling of stagnation under Rodgers and now they are close to unveiling one of the most coveted names in European football management.

During his time as Dortmund boss, Klopp shared some common ground with Liverpool fans. Specifically, a dislike of The Sun newspaper.

Liverpool fans' hatred for The Sun is well documented, going back 26 years to what the paper wrote about supporters of the club following the Hillsborough disaster.

Back in 2009 - while speaking to Spiegel Online - Klopp imagined with horror what the world would be like if only tabloid newspapers such as The Sun, Blick and Bild existed.

In Germany people always think, there is only "The Sun" in England's press, which the English would not want. In Switzerland they also don't only have "Blick". Imagine if there were only the "Sun", "Blick" and "Bild". What sort of a world would that be? As long as there are a few newspapers that stand out from this, there's also the possibility to inform yourself different.

Forward four years to April 2013 and a press conference following a 4-1 Dortmund win against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final.

Questioned by Antony Kastrinakis of The Sun, a broad smile crossed Klopp's face when the journalist mentioned which newspaper he worked for.

Kastrinakis responded by asking if Klopp had a problem with the paper. Before the German could respond, the Dortmund media officer jumped in.

The relationship between Klopp and Kastrinakis does not end there. In November 2013 - via The Guardian - Klopp had this exchange with the journalist.

Klopp loves to laugh and his is a very big laugh. He jokes that his ugly face is one problem and he turns to the journalist from the Sun. "You have the same problem," he says, uproariously.

Finally, last year after a Champions League loss to Real Madrid, Klopp responded angrily to a suggestion from a Sun employee - possibly Kastrinakis once again - that the 2014 Dortmund team was inferior to the 2013 version.

Here's video of Klopp's response. Unfortunately, it does not feature his 'Oh! The Sun' exclamation.
