Liverpool secured a 4-2 victory over Newcastle United to cement their place at the top of the league this evening, although Jurgen Klopp was nearly made to suffer after the game only for to be helped out by a Sky Sports cameraman.
Liverpool made hard work of a game that they really should have won comfortably. The squandered a number of brilliant chances, including via Mohamed Salah from the penalty spot in the opening half.
While they would eventually score four goals, even that did not reflect their dominance in the game. They would record an xG of 7.2 in this fixture, the highest mark for one side in a single game since records began in the Premier League.
By the time Salah scored his second attempt from the spot late on, there was a massive sense of relief around Anfield.

This result extended Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League, now sitting three points clear of the chasing pack (although Manchester City would be just two points behind if they win their game in hand).

Jurgen Klopp given a helping hand by Sky Sports cameraman
Jurgen Klopp cut a frustrated figure for much of this evening's game, growing increasingly uneasy as his side continued to waste a number of excellent chances. He was certainly relieved to see them eventually secure the three points, although he nearly experienced a personal disaster in the aftermath of the game.
As he led the celebrations on the pitch at Anfield, it became apparent that he had dropped his wedding ring.
While the German would struggle to recover it, although he eventually found it with a helping hand from the Sky Sports cameraman.

Brilliant.
Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo for the next few weeks, with those two players set to represent their national teams in the African Cup of Nations and Asian Cup respectively. However, they will be hopeful that their absence will not be felt too much during a more relaxed January schedule.
Jurgen Klopp will be thrilled to see his team sitting at the top of the league, although he will arguably be even more delighted to avoid a telling off for losing his wedding ring.
He owes that cameraman a couple of pints to say thank you.
