After a weekend in which British football came to a standstill, a number of clubs in the country are set to return to continental action in the coming days.

While domestic competitions were put on hold after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, it always seemed unlikely that games under UEFA control would follow suit if staging them was at all possible. While Arsenal's game against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday has been put on hold due to policing issues, it seems the other games in the UK will go ahead.

That includes Liverpool's fixture against Ajax, which is due to be played at Anfield tomorrow night.

This fixture is likely to be watched closely by certain onlookers. The people of Liverpool have a difficult relationship with the rest of England, something that often shows during football games.

Their supporters were criticised for booing the national anthem last season, while there were rumours that concerns over their ability to pay respect to the recently deceased monarch played a role in calling off last weekend's games.

The club were among the last in Britain to mark the Queen's passing on social media and turned off the replies when they did so.

A minute's silence will be held before the game at Anfield on Tuesday to mark the British monarch's death.

When asked about this gesture and a potential warning to supporters in press conference ahead of the fixture, Jurgen Klopp insisted that the Liverpool crowd did not need any advice from him on how to handle the occasion.

Yeah, I think it is the right thing to do.

But I don’t think that our people need any kind of advice from me about showing respect.

There are plenty of examples where people showed exactly the right kind of respect. One that surprised me and I was really proud of was last season when we played Manchester United. There was a sad situation around Cristiano Ronaldo’s family.

For me, it’s clear. That’s what we have to do.

I am 55 years old and she is the only Queen of England I ever knew. I didn’t know her but the things you can see, she was a really warm, nice, loved lady and that is what you need to know.

It is not about what I think but people who are or felt much closer to her, I respect their grief a lot and that is why I will show my respect tomorrow night if it goes through.

Liverpool supporters engaged in a moments applause and rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone for Cristiano Ronaldo when his newborn baby sadly passed away earlier this year.

The footballing authorities in the UK will be hoping tomorrow's minute of silence will pass by without incident, with the typical characters in the country ready to outraged should they deem that some disrespectful had taken place.
