Liverpool's injury crisis has worsened with the news that Emre Can is set to miss the rest of the season with a back injury. Sky Sports Germany interviewed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and when asked if the German's season was over following a back injury the former Dortmund boss said 'yes'.
The 24-year-old injured his back in the 4-0 win against Watford three weeks ago and hasn't been able to train since. There had been reports that the German may have played his last game for the club, but these were scotched by the club who said he would need a few weeks to recover from the injury.
Can's contract with the Anfield club is up in the summer and there has been heavy speculation that the German will join Juventus when he becomes a free agent in June.
The news leaves Liverpool decidedly lightweight in the midfield with James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Gini Wijnaldum the only fit, senior midfielders left at the club. The Reds face Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League quarter final with only Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wijnaldum available as Henderson misses out due to picking up his 3rd yellow card of the tournament in the first leg.
Adam Lallana is out injured after picking up a hamstring injury in the win over Crystal Palace two weeks ago and youngster Ben Woodburn has only just returned to full fitness. Liverpool sold midfielder Philipe Coutinho in January and neglected to get a replacement, and judging by their current lack of options it could prove to be a costly oversight as they head into the business end of the season.
