Liverpool have emerged as surprising contenders for the signature of German international Julian Draxler, per Paul Joyce in today's Times.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to boost his attacking options, and now that a deal for Cristian Pulisic from Dortmund looks dead as a result of the fee his current club are demanding, Draxler has emerged as a surprising alternative. While Liverpool are interested, PSG remain frontrunners for Draxler's signature from Wolfsburg. This is somehow in spite of the fact that Draxler has been linked with Arsenal for virtually every transfer window over the past four years.
The fee might prove a sticking point for Liverpool: it will be high, potentially around £30 million. Liverpool will be light up front for January as Sadio Mané heads off to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, and there is also the nagging suspicion that Phillippe Coutinho may have his head turned by interest from Barcelona in the summer, meaning top-class attacking talent may become a necessity in the longer-term.
Elsewhere, the Mirror are running a story claiming that Liverpool want to sign Joe Hart next summer, a report that contains the line "Liverpool have been heavily linked with Sunderland's rising-star Jordan Pickford", a transfer link we had never heard of up to now.
