Juan Mata Trots Out The Quintessential GAA Cliche When Revealing His Favourite Film

Manchester United's Spanish midfielder Juan Mata is a very culturally sophisticated individual.

A man who regularly posts Instagrams of his visits to museums and historical landmarks around the Manchester area, it's clear that Mata does not fit the typical "thick" footballer stereotype. Example:

I like #TheNorthernQuarter.

Even the Juan Mata blog posts that appear weekly during the season are fascinating, that is why it is so disappointing to find out what Juan Mata's favourite film is, as he revealed when asked in an interview for BeIN Sports. It's not a Ukrainian subtitled film from the late 80s, nor is it Citizen Kane, or even Japanese cult classic Rashomon, instead it is the same as every GAA player who ever lived and was interviewed:

I don't know, I can't pick one. I really like The Shawshank Redemption, it's fantastic.

Ah Juan, you've let us all down.

Perhaps asking him who his favourite Italian renaissance painter is would have give a more satisfying response.
