There is likely to be quite a bit of change in the Ireland setup over the coming months, with Heimir Hallgrimsson looking to put his stamp on the team after his appointment as manager.

Stephen Kenny had been in charge of the side for over three years prior to his exit in November of 2023, with the FAI embarking on a lengthy process to find his replacement. That ultimately ended with the move for the Icelandic coach, who came into the role in July.

Any new manager will look to implement his own philosophy on the squad, while we could also see the addition of some new faces during the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign.

As for those already part of the setup, they are looking forward to playing under a new head coach.

Cullen Excited About New Ireland Manager After Chat With Teammate

While he may have been given his international debut under Mick McCarthy, it was under Stephen Kenny that he became a pivotal part of the Ireland team.

That is set to continue under the new manager, with the Burnley midfielder excited about what is to come after a conversation with one of his club teammates.

Speaking to Sportsboom.com, Cullen said that he spoke about Hallgrimsson with Burnley's Johann Gudmundsson, who played under the 57-year old with Iceland.

I’ve spoken to Johann [Gudmundsson] about him and I’ve only heard good things; positive things of how he is as a coach and a person.

I haven’t spoken to him (the new manager) yet, We’ve got a good young squad of up-and-coming players and we’ll be working our best to get a result in front of our fans.

Before you know it the international window is coming up thick and fast, so it won’t be long before we’re all meeting up for the England game to kick that Nations League campaign off...

I’ve got a new manager (Scott Parker) at club level, so there’s always a freshness when that happens. And it’s the same at international level, I think everyone will be excited to get in and learn about the new manager.

It’s new ideas for us and, ahead of a new campaign, I think ‘excitement’ is the main word to describe how I’m feeling about my international future as well.

I haven’t had two new managers at the same time before. It’s an exciting time on the club and international front as well. I’m looking forward to getting going with both of them.

Heimir Hallgrimsson will not have an easy start to life as Ireland boss, with his first game in charge coming against England at the Aviva Stadium on September 7th.

It will be interesting to see how the UEFA Nations League campaign plays out under his guidance over the coming months.
