Eric Cantona is releasing a book. Speaking to BBC Radio 4 this morning, Cantona divulged a few details regarding My Notebook.
Containing some personal reflections and a series of drawings, it is about as close to a standard footballing autobiography as you would expect from the Frenchman.
Despite the protestations of the book's publisher, references to seminal Cantona moments - "when the seagulls..." - will not be found within these pages.
Football is a topic that scarcely crosses Cantona's mind anymore; 'I am not interested.'
Although his general antipathy toward the game where he made his name is obvious, his affection for Manchester United seems a little harder to shake.
Keeping a track of their results, Cantona spoke of the impression Jose Mourinho has made on the team, and why it doesn't necessarily suit United's style of play as Cantona once knew it:
I love Mourinho, I said before he joined Manchester United ... he is a winner, he has won a lot of things. I like his charisma, he is very clever and intelligent.
But, he is playing in this defensive way which is not the identity of the game for United. But, I am sure he will win even more things [for United].
How interested he will be in watching these victories is uncertain however. By comparison, Cantona lauded the 'more creative game of Barcelona'.
It has not taken long for Mourinho to address Cantona's issues with United's style. Speaking ahead of tomorrow's clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, Mourinho directed his questions toward the Frenchman:
I don't know what you want?
More ambition than we are showing at home I think is quite difficult. I don't know who is more ambitious than us, we played against Newcastle with Pogba, Rashford, Martial, Mata, Lukaku. The full-backs, Valencia and Young are wingers. So I don't know what you want.
Answering such concerns have become part and parcel of Mourinho's remit lately.
Although he can hardly have expected criticism coming from this source.
