Manchester United suffered their sixth league defeat of the season this afternoon at home to relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion; a result that confirms Manchester City's Premier League triumph in the process.
Sitting second to City in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho's side are now only one-point clear of third-placed Liverpool; although they do have a game in-hand on Jurgen Klopp's side.
Speaking post-match, Jose Mourinho was quick to correct the notion that his side had gifted Pep Guardiola's men the title:
I won titles. I wouldn't be happy if somebody tells that I won the title because somebody lost a match.
Manchester City won the title because they won more points than anybody else ... because during the season they only lost two matches.
You are not going to tell that Manchester City won the title because Manchester United gave them the title.
It's not fair, for them.
Admitting that he had found it difficult to motivate his players mid-week after their memorable defeat of the Premier League winners last weekend, Mourinho's side now face into five more league games with the hope of assuring their place as runners-up.
