Dundalk manager Vinny Perth received an unexpected video call following his side's penalty shootout win against Riga in the Champions League first qualifying round on Wednesday evening.
The call was from Jose Mourinho.
The Irish Independent reports that the connection with the ex-Manchester United manager comes through Andy Burton, a former Sky Sports reporter, who is involved with Dundalk's American ownership group Peak6.
Dundalk chairman Mike Treacy also tweeted about the call.
"Jose just rang, I was a bit emotional and then that added to it because he's a hero of mine," Perth said after last night's victory.
"I know people question what he has done in the last couple of years but for me he has always been a hero so for him to ring and congratulate me was a surreal moment, a weird moment."
