Jose Mourinho has said that if he had been in Brendan Rodgers's shoes, he would have waited until the end of the season to leave Celtic and join Leicester. Rodgers departed Celtic last week saying he felt that he had taken the club as far as he could.

Some Celtic fans subsequently reacted angrily, unfurling a banner during a game against Hearts last week which labelled Rodgers a "fraud". That Rodgers left with three months of the season still remaining is a decision which has especially irritated supporters.

"If you ask me I am surprised by Brendan leaving Celtic to go to Leicester, I would say I'm not surprised because the Scottish championship with all the respect is not the same as the Premier League," Mourinho told beIN Sports.

Celtic is a giant club. But the Premier League is the Premier League so I'm not surprised that he comes.

If I was in his position, I would say to Leicester 'I want to come to you, but not now. I want to come next season, I want to be a champion in Scotland. I want to leave at the right moment.'

In my opinion the right moment would be pre-season.
