To be fair, he came very much to the foreground for Liverpool's fourth goal - given that he scored it - but until then this was a rather apt description of what seemed to be happening every time the home side attacked.

Shelvey has had somewhat of torrid time against his old club tonight; scoring an own goal and not coming out shining defensively for some of the others, not to mention the fact that he should have been sent off for an elbow in the first half.
