For a man used to commentating on advanced robot warfare, BBC commentator Jonathan Pierce was surprisingly left flabbergasted by the new goal-line technology system in place the World Cup in Brazil.
The incident which has brought to light Pearce's apparent lack of common sense occurred during last nights World Cup Group E game between France and Honduras. As the first half neared it's conclusion, France striker Karim Benzema was put through on goal and his shot came back off the post before being turned over the line by the Honduras goalkeeper.
The goal was awarded, and as the goal-line technology replayed on the big screen, it offered two possibilities for the ball having crossed the line. The first was obviously not a goal as the ball struck the post, the second showed that after re-bounding off the goalkeeper the ball did in fact cross the line, and everyone was satisfied... Except Jonathan Pearce who declared that another huge controversial moment had occurred at this World Cup. It had not.
It remains to be seen whether Pearce is still outraged over the decision. We like to think that he is, although he can't clear things up via his twitter account as he doesn't have one. Shocker.
I'm not sure how FIFA could have ensured this system was any more Jonathan Pearce-proof... pic.twitter.com/DRIXKtwEE4
