Another of Ireland's top stars seems to be heading for the Championship.

If James McClean was the goalscoring talisman of Ireland's last qualification campaign, Jon Walters performed that role for the campaign previous. Now it looks like both will be facing off in the Championship this season, as Walters looks set to join Ipswich Town on loan from Burnley.

TWTD, a respected Ipswich Town fan site, is reporting that Walters is subject to interest from the club and a loan move is expected to be completed by Friday's deadline.

Walters spent three years at Ipswich between 2007 and 2010, scoring 30 goals in 136 league appearances. From there Walters had a successful seven-year stint at Stoke, before his career ground to a half at Burnley. A knee injury curtailed Walters season to just three Premier League appearances, and now, in spite of the Europa League stretching Burnley's squad to the limit, it seems like Sean Dyche is willing to let the Irishman leave the club.

Walters was left out of Burnley's trip to Olympiacos last week, after which he sent out a tweet reading "I miss football".

Ipswich are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship, with just two points from five games.
