Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan has pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend Rachael Wall in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of December 22nd.

Flanagan appeared at Liverpool magistrates court this afternoon to plead guilty to the charge, and will be sentenced to a community penalty on January 17th.

The court heard of CCTV footage showing Flanagan assaulting his girlfriend a number of times, kicking her in one instance.

Lionel Greig, defending Flanagan, said that there had been no instance of assault at any previous point of the relationship, and that both parties were under the influence of alcohol at the time.
