Do you remember Johnny Heitinga? Everton fans must, he was a solid enough centre back for them for five years. Following that though, he faded into obscurity, making just 19 appearances in the following three seasons. He finished his career where he started it at Ajax.
It's been a year since Heitinga retired from the game, and when we say he's after falling from grace, we mean it. He gave an interview to 1limburg in his home country where he explained the tough times he is currently enduring.
When I was still playing football we had a lot more money coming in. Our expenditures were likewise. Now we are trying to adjust.
In the past, we sometimes chartered a private jet, but we don't do that now. On holidays we do still rent a fancy villa, but you get different categories of 'fancy'.
Previously Danie Bles [personal stylist] dressed us. She is a very good stylist. We could not simply go to Paris, Milan or New York to shop
Poor Johnny Heitinga, not being able to fly wherever he wants. They've even got to dress themselves!
Heitinga's wife was also part of the interview.
We are trying to get used to it. Sometimes it is difficult.
A Dutch football pundit came out and criticised Heitinga for 'pretending to be Elvis Presley with his jets and vacations'.
Not having a private jet isn't difficult. Having to scramble change together to get onto a bus is difficult. Or, you know, there's these things called cars.
It's not like Heitinga doesn't have a source of income. He owns a bar and is a coach for Ajax. Our heart bleeds for you Johnny.
