Nearly ten years after first being appointed manager of Oldham in a full time capacity, former Ireland international John Sheridan will once again take charge of the club.
On Tuesday, ex-Blackburn player David Dunn was sacked from the job after just three months at the League One club.
Dunn departed with the club third from bottom and five points inside the relegation zone of English football's third tier.
Sheridan had been manager of Newport County since October but Oldham came to an agreement with the Welsh club for him to return to Boundary Park.
Reagrding the appointment, club chairman Simon Corney, told the club's website that Sheridan has always been on the radar.
John has always been high up on my list whenever we have appointed managers. If you look at his record, he got us into the play offs when he was here and he has won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and promotion with Chesterfield, plus he took Plymouth into the play offs last season.
Wherever he has been he has done really well. It was time to make a change and we feel we’ve got the right man here to make a difference, get the crowd going, get the players going and keep us in League One.
Between 1988 and 1995, Sheridan won 34 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
