Vito Mannone had touted the idea of the Sunderland players refunding the unfortunate group of fans who travelled to Southampton to see them lose 8-0 and indeed it has come to pass.
Supporters can either claim the £24 of the ticket price for themselves or choose to donate it to Sunderland's childrens' hospice Grace House. In what has been a tumultuous seven days for the club captain John O'Shea, he said:
We win and lose as a team, players, staff and fans.
However, we wanted to acknowledge and thank the supporters who travelled such a long way to give us their backing and despite everything, stayed with us until the final whistle.
I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all those who own either Pelle or Tadic in their fantasy football teams, to offer my sincere thanks to John and the entire Sunderland team for Saturday's performance.
