Current Ireland Assistant Coach John O'Shea is being linked with a move to English Championship side Birmingham City where he could reunite with former teammate Wayne Rooney.
It is rumoured that former Manchester United player O'Shea will link up with Rooney who is reportedly in line to become the club's next manager should they decide to replace current boss John Eustace.
Eustace, who's side currently sit sixth in England's second tier, is believed to be in the mix to fill the vacant managerial post at Rangers, and has also began to garner interest from Premier League clubs.
Aaron Paul of BBC Radio 5 Live is reporting that a deal for Rooney to take Eustace's job is "done".
First heard about this last week, but I’ve been told that Wayne Rooney will be arriving in the second city very very soon - the deal for him to become the new Birmingham City manager is done #bcfc #kro https://t.co/FnxlJAT5dY

John O'Shea could join Wayne Rooney and Ashley Cole at Birmingham
Rooney's ex-England teammate Ashley Cole is also expected to join O'Shea on the coaching team.
It was only confirmed last night that Rooney, who scored 183 goals for the Old Trafford club in nearly 400 appearances, would be leaving his position as manager of MLS outfit DC United after he failed to lead them into the playoffs.
“It's the right time. I've done everything I can to get this club into the playoffs," Rooney said when speaking after news of his departure had been confirmed.
"It's not a single thing that's happened. It's about timing.
“What lies ahead, I don't know. I've seen a lot of reports in the media. I'm going back with nothing lined up. I want to say on record to everyone involved in the club. Staff, players: I'm grateful.”
The news will no doubt be of interest to Stephen Kenny as Ireland prepare for another international break in the coming week.
It is likely that even if O'Shea was to take on the role in England's second largest city that he would still be able to fulfil his international commitments, however whether or not the FAI would allow that is an entirely different question.
Birmingham are apparently keen to get a bigger name in and see Wayne Rooney as the perfect wit. Whether that transpires remains to be seen.
