The squealing voice of football John Motson retired from commentary to much fanfare this year, following a remarkable 50 years working with the BBC. If you were equating his leaving the Beeb with his retirement from commentary altogether, however, you are mistaken, as Motson has announced he is going to work with TalkSPORT next season.

The 73-year-old will be doing live match commentaries on the station along with contributing to a preview/review show on Mondays and Fridays and a series of interviews with some of his favourite former players.

“It didn’t take long to come out of retirement because talkSPORT is a great place to talk football, says Motson. “I’m looking forward to joining the team, commentating on this great game for some time longer".

In his half-century with the Beeb, Motson worked on more than 2,000 matches, which included games at ten separate World Cups.
