John Giles Thinks Man United Bought The Madrid Player They Didn't Need

John Giles isn't enthused by Louis Van Gaal's signing of Angel Di Maria, believing that United need a central midfielder in the mould of Fabregas or Alonso.

'United could do with the likes of Fabregas or a couple of defenders', he said on Off The Ball.

When discussing Xabi Alonso's surprising move to Bayern Munich, he said 'I think Alonso is still a very, very good player. I know he didn't play in the Champions League Final last season, but he played well up to it. He's the type of player they (United) need in that position.'

He also had his say on the Leeds saga, where Dave Hockaday has been sacked after 70 days in the job. He says no manager should go near the job and the next logical step as that the 'headbanger' chairman take the job himself.
