AUDIO: John Giles Clearly Doesn't Think Much Of Thierry Henry's Punditry

John Giles doesn't think the young lad Henry has much of a future in the punditry business.

The godfather of Irish football was not in his usual perch beside Bill O'Herlihy  Darragh Maloney last night and was evidently watching Sky Sports' coverage at his home in Birmingham instead.

Given his geographical location at the time, we wont quibble with his choice of channel. He could have used a VPN to change his IP address to Ireland in order to access the RTE Player, but in fairness we can't be sure he has the necessary computer skills to accomplish this task.

Appearing on Off The Ball this evening, he expressed his low opinion of Thierry's analytical capabilities.

Like many people, Gilesy couldn't quite get with Henry's argument as regards Javier Hernandez (or little Pea, as he always calls him) alleged over-celebration of his goal.

I couldn't understand what he was taking about. I think 'Henrae' has been a great player but as a pundit he's but as a pundit so far to me he's been disappointing.

I actually think Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness were having a little laugh at him. I could not understand what he was saying.

If that's the kind of comment he could make, he'd have a long way to go.

He was actually talking about Ronaldo, that Little Pea didn't appreciate Ronaldo's part in the goal. But if I saw it properly, Ronaldo ran past the scorer. Ronaldo's one of the worst in the world for not recognising what a team-mate does for him.

Elsewhere, Gilesy said that he would play Jack Grealish against Scotland. Assuming that Grealish signals his intention to play for Ireland before then, he says O'Neill should do the same.

Giles, as Irish player-manager, threw the 17 year old Brady into the fray against the Soviet Union in 1974 having only seen him play once. Ireland famously won 3-0 thanks to Don Givens' hot streak and a shaggy-haired Brady shone in midfield.

There are some players you only need to see once. I only needed to see Liam Brady once

He did caution that it will depend on the attitude of the player.

We don't know what his influences are, it might be his dream to play for England. If it's his dream to play for England then we should forget it.
