Spare a thought for the denizens of the Brentford and Sheffield Wednesday last night: they missed the utterly superb Champions League tie between Man City and Monaco. They faced off against each other in the Championship, with Brentford winning out 2-1, to hoist themselves to a comfortable 14th in the Championship table, bringing an end to a poor run of form for Brentford since selling Scott Hogan (they had won just once in their last seven games).
The deadlock was broken by Irish Under-21 international John Egan, who leaped highest to finish this immensely satisfying looping header, which ended up sailing over fellow Irishman Keiren Westwood:

Cracking finish. Egan has yet to be capped at senior level but a call-up from O'Neill will surely arrive sooner rather than later: the 24-year-old has rebuilt his career very well since being released by Sunderland, a club at which he earned experience working with Martin O'Neill.
