John Aldridge has hit out at Manchester United fans who are rejoicing at Liverpool's Premier League title dreams seemingly going up in smoke on Sunday.
The Merseysiders lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace and the defeat, coupled with a 2-0 loss for Arsenal at home to Aston Villa, has swung the initiative back in the favour of Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola's side are now two points clear of both rivals, and what looked like a three-horse title race on Sunday morning now seems likely to be a procession for City who have a favourable run of fixtures ahead.
Once again, Liverpool's finishing let them down as they missed a host of chances against Palace on an afternoon they're likely to rue for years to come.
Former Ireland striker Aldridge, a ex-Liverpool player and staunch supporter, is one of those licking his wounds as he comes to terms with the Jurgen Klopp era ending with a whimper.
That was hard to take folks!!credit palace for brilliant defending 👏but what’s gone wrong with our finishing in recent games??its ridiculous and very costly.keep you’re heads up we could be in a worse situation like many other clubs.ynwa

John Aldridge hits out at Man United fans
"That was hard to take folks!" he posted after Liverpool's defeat was confirmed. "Credit Palace for brilliant defending but what’s gone wrong with our finishing in recent games? It's ridiculous and very costly. Keep your heads up we could be in a worse situation like many other clubs. Ynwa."
Of course, Man United fans took great glee in Aldridge's misery and let him know about it under his post. That prompted another tweet, as Aldridge took aim as his club's great rivals.
I’m starting to feel a lot better after all the MUFC fans response on this tweet 😂😂they’re loving the fact that City are going to win it for the 4th yr in a row 😩We’ve actually brought them down to supporting city folks !!Man Utdare not even the best team in their own city… https://t.co/2rmLGiou43

"Not even the best team in their own city"
"I’m starting to feel a lot better after all the MUFC fans' response on this tweet, they’re loving the fact that City are going to win it for the 4th yr in a row," he wrote. "We’ve actually brought them down to supporting city folks!! Man Utd are not even the best team in their own city and haven’t been for 12 years COME ON CITEH, pathetic lot."
Aldridge has a point as United are hardly in a good moment themselves, but of course their supporters are going to delight in Liverpool blowing the title race.
His second tweet is sure to attract more derision, and Aldridge might be best served staying off Twitter for the time being.
