Rangers' return to the top flight of Scottish football has not been without its difficulties.
While they lie a respectable third in the league, Rangers have been hammered 5-1 by Celtic, and the arrival of Joey Barton has become more a saga than signing. Barton was suspended by the club for a training ground scrap with teammate Andy Halliday, and has subsequently been charged by the SFA for breaching gambling regulations.
With questions swirling around Barton, manager Mark Warburton's press conference earlier this week descended into farce.
Barton was due to return to the club from suspension on Monday, but that didn't materialise, as the club announced he was to stay away for another seven days as they launched a "formal disciplinary procedure". Barton has refused to attend a hearing with the club.
Now, the BBC report that Barton is going to leave the club, months after signing a two-year deal.
It seems that the "formal disciplinary procedure" has ended in both parties at a stalemate, and the BBC claim that it will ultimately end in Barton leaving the club.
If that does happen, it will bring the curtain down on a time in Scotland remarkable for both its brevity and its controversy.
