Joey Barton Destroys Raheem Sterling Yet Again In His L'Equipe Column

Joey Barton is not a fan of Raheem Sterling. We knew that already. He took to TV3 a few weeks ago to blast the Man City winger's form, and now he's taken to print to do it again.

Barton has a column in L'Equipe today where he takes it even further, wondering why Sterling is even a professional. Barton says that Sterling has had a bad two years, and if he didn't have his pace he wouldn't be a pro.

Unfortunately, he has not been coached well enough. If you take away his pace, he is really weak, very limited technically. Without his pace, would he be a professional?

If he weren't so quick, he would not be apt to do the job. And to think he cost £50m!

Barton doesn't stop there, but takes a wider swipe at England's attacking options that Sterling was even in the Euros squad, and that Germany, France, or Spain wouldn't have taken someone so out of form.

For England, he is a starter and that says we are not that well stocked in the attacking department. I don't want to write him off completely because he is still young.

Barton thinks that if anyone can upskill Sterling, it's Guardiola, but that we will know very soon whether Sterling can develop at 21-year-old under Guardiola, because the Spaniard will discard him quickly if he doesn't.
