The failure of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year (that orgy of pomposity and crap banter) to properly honour Rory McIlroy with the main award of the night caused consternation online, with many Irish tweeters incredulous at the result and many other Irish tweeters incredulous at the incredulous reaction of other Irish tweeters.
But few were as annoyed as Joey Barton, who raged this morning about tax exile status and the 'boring sport' of Formula 1. However it has to be remembered that the Formula 1 calender is very fortuitous from a Sports Personality of the Year standpoint. The cahmpionship finishes up shortly before the vote. Damon Hill won it twice in the 90s, Mansell has won it twice, Jackie Stewart, only Button was snubbed... we've been here before.
Can't believe they gave SPOTY to Hamilton. 1. Formula 1 is the most boring sport ever. 2. He brought a dog with him. 3. He's a tax exile.

McIlroy, wins multiple golf Majors and Ryder Cup. Froch, boxing World champion. In fact every other nominee was more deserving the Hamilton. — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) December 15, 2014
Tax exile's should be exempt from winning trophies paid and voted for by the tax/licence payer.

Hamilton was giving everything by this country then moves to tax free country as soon as he starts earning big money. — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) December 15, 2014
He should never have won. He is a terrible role model to any Britain. What precedent does that set. Bad day in our history.
