Joe Brolly has never been one to hold his tongue when he has something to say, something that made him an engaging watch during his years on The Sunday Game.
The former Derry footballer however, has sometimes overstepped the mark - notably for his unnecessary comments about Marty Morrissey - which he later apologised for.
Prior to a game between Cavan and Monaghan, Brolly said that Cavan football was "as ugly as Marty Morrissey" and that "I should apologise to the people of Cavan". Later in the broadcast, he added that it was "said in the spirit of affection". He has, to his credit, repeatedly expressed his regret.
Ex-Tyrone player Sean Kavanagh - who cynically took out Monaghan's Conor McManus in a goalscoring position to help his side advance to the 2013 All-Ireland semis - also famously felt the brunt of Brolly's tongue.
"He’s a brilliant footballer, but you can forget about Sean Cavanagh as a man," Brolly famously stated.
Joe Brolly Takes Aim At Roy Keane In Scathing Assessment
Now Irish soccer legend and popular pundit Roy Keane has found himself in the firing line.
A divisive character on these shores, Keane is loved by many and loathed by some - his infamous decision to walk out on the country ahead of the 2002 World Cup staining his legacy on the pitch.
He has become one of the most engaging personalities on TV, whether it be on Sky Sports or ITV he is as box office as they come.
But Brolly appears to be a staunch critic of the Cork man, taking aim at Keane in a discussion on the country's greatest sportsmen.
Speaking on his Free State Podcast With Dion Fanning, Brolly did not hold back in questioning Keane's character and shared his view why he should not been compared to the likes of Dublin GAA legend Stephen Cluxton.
I think that his lack of humility disqualifies him from this top tier," Brolly said.
"You know his behaviour with the Irish team, which was a disgrace, whenever he was the key man. We're not relitigating it (Saipan)... (or) what he did with Manchester United at the end.
"And the fact that no one is more cosy with the media now than Roy. I mean Roy would take donkey rides drinking a diet Coke now if he was going to be paid enough for it and no one has more fully embraced the media than Roy.
"One of the things about all the top guys, the guys who really stuck it out and were there until the bitter end for their team was that they had no interest in that. As far as they were concerned that was like 'what is that?' They didn't even understand it.
"[Stephen] Cluxton going into the dressing room after Dublin winning the All-Ireland instead of parading around the pitch. I mean 'what's the point of doing all that stuff like, it's all over now, we'll start again next year'.
"Take it away from that stuff that we know all about already about Roy Keane and stuff, who I think, I have to say, is a bit of a bore. I don't in any way hold for when this starts 'oh wait until you hear what Roy Keane said'.
"It's the same old shtick all the time. Genuinely I think he is a bore. I don't think he has very much to say.
"He's only funny because he's in with all those real bores. It's a bit like the priest telling a joke. Everybody laughs at mass because it's such an unfunny place and you're not used to it."
Safe to say that Brolly is not a fan of the former Ireland and Man United captain.
