Since making her Champions League (coverage) debut after years of work behind the scenes at RTÉ, Joanne Cantwell has gone from strength to strength and now must be recognised as one of the best sports presenters around. She was given that chance after her excellent work covering the Rio Olympics in 2016, and hasn't looked back.
Her busy schedule over the past 7 days not only hammers home how versatile she is in terms of covering different sports, but also just how knowledgeable she is when asked to do so.
Her value to RTÉ as a network is very clear, as they don't have many who could do the following to the standard that she did:
Wednesday 16th - Presented Celtic vs Astana in Champions League
Thursday 17th - Reported post-match on Women's Rugby World Cup
That's not Joanne, but she's holding the microphone.
Saturday 19th - Presented both All Ireland Camogie semi-finals
Monday 21st - Presented Soccer Republic
Wednesday 23rd - Presented Liverpool vs Hoffenheim in Champions League
-Knows her stuff and does her research.
-Doesn't talk waffle or stir the pot for no reason.
-Always gives the analysts room to not only share their views, but to clarify them.
That's a busy 7 days for a sports broadcaster, but she smashed it.
Cantwell is fantastic, and we're delighted that the RTÉ have noticed and rewarded her with a lot of screen-time in recent weeks. Long may it continue.
